In a major infrastructure push in the state of Maharashtra, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announced that the government will connect the Samruddhi Expressway with the upcoming Vadhvan Port through a dedicated 105-km transit corridor from Igatpuri.

According to the Times of India, alignment maps and the DPR for the extension have already been made, and construction will begin soon. The Maharashtra Chief Minister said, "The expressway will be linked to the port, which is among the 10 biggest globally, through a transit corridor from Igatpuri. The project will boost logistics operations along the Samruddhi Expressway and help with the freight movement in the state. "Those catering to the domestic market would also be able to export goods from here. It would further increase the state’s contribution to the global supply chain," Fadnavis added.

The project will increase the capacity of the Vadhvan port by nearly three times, which will help it to supersede the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust, currently the biggest port in the country. Fadnavis also informed about the progress on the Shaktipeeth Project that aims to connect Vidarbha with Goa.
