Just a day before the deadline for filing of nominations, NCP (SP) convenor Sharad Pawar said the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) alliance has reached a consensus over 90 to 95 per cent of the total 288 seats in the state. Pawar attacked the BJP and its allies and said that the MVA is fighting against the forces that engineered splits in rival political parties and those who compromised with their ideology for temporary political gains.

Pawar said that the Mahayuti government did nothing for people, and their leaders fooled the people of Maharashtra. "Those who are in power did not solve problems of the people. We are fighting against those who engineered splits in political parties, made unnecessary compromises with their ideology, and did things they were not supposed to do," Sharad Pawar was quoted as saying by PTI.

The Maharashtra assembly elections are scheduled for November 20, and the votes will be counted on November 23. The last date to file the nomination papers is October 29. The MVA comprises the NCP (SP), Congress, and Uddhav Thackeray's Shiv Sena (UBT), and the alliance announced that they would contest 85 seats each in the polls. However, there were many seats where the parties were negotiating, as more than one party claimed those seats.

Shiv Sena (UBT) has declared candidates for 85 seats, of which 40 will contest in the Konkan region and the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR). The Congress has announced candidates for 99 candidates and has declared the highest 34 candidates for the Vidarbha region. The Samajwadi Party has also demanded 7 seats from the MVA.
