Mumbai-Nagpur Expressway Accident: Two men died and four others were injured early Thursday morning in a road accident on the Mumbai-Nagpur Samruddhi Expressway near Amane in Shahapur taluka of Thane district.

According to the Kalyan Taluka police, a family from Parbhani was travelling in a jeep to Dadar for a marriage-related meeting when their vehicle crashed into a truck around 5 AM. Preliminary investigation suggests the jeep’s driver, Nyaneshwar Ingle (34), may have fallen asleep at the wheel, causing the collision.

The impact killed Abdul Pasha Sheikh (65) and Zahid Siddiqui (40) on the spot. Three other family members, along with driver Ingle, sustained serious injuries. All four were initially taken to a nearby government hospital before being shifted to Siraj Hospital in Bhiwandi. Ingle and another injured passenger are being treated in the ICU. One person from the group escaped without injuries.

Police have registered a case against Ingle under sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for reckless driving endangering lives. Assistant Police Inspector Bala Kumbhar stated that legal action will follow once the driver recovers. Investigations are ongoing.

In separate news, Nine people lost their lives in a road accident on the Jejuri-Morgaon road in Pune on Wednesday evening. A speeding car veered off the road and rammed into a pick-up truck parked outside a hotel, killing the hotel owner, his staff, the pick-up driver, and four people from the car, including a child and a woman. Two others sustained injuries. Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his condolences and announced Rs 2 lakh ex gratia for the families of the deceased and Rs 50,000 for the injured from the PMNRF. Police are investigating the cause of the accident, which occurred around 6:45 PM.
