Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, while reacting to the reports of BJP's alliance with Congress and AIMIM on two separate seats, clarified that such arrangements will not be tolerated. The chief minister further stated that the BJP leaders have been instructed to break the alliance, adding that disciplinary actions will be taken against them. A political shockwave spread on Wednesday after the BJP leaders in Ambernath announced a post-poll alliance with the archrivals Congress, leaving the state ally Eknath Shinde's Shiv Sena in the opposition. The Congress has also suspended its 12 councillors in the Ambernath municipal council for forming an alliance with the saffron party.
However, Fadnavis clarified that such decisions could only be taken by the party top brass, adding that strict action will be taken against the violators. "The BJP can never form an alliance with the Congress or the AIMIM. Such alliances are unacceptable and will not be tolerated," Fadnavis asserted. "If any local BJP leaders have entered into alliances with these parties (AIMIM, Congress) without approval, it is a serious breach of party discipline, and strict action will be taken," he added.
The chief minister further asserted that the top brass of the party has not approved such arrangements. “Any decision taken unilaterally by local leaders is wrong in terms of discipline,” Fadnavis stated in an interview. The row erupted after the BJP formed an alliance with the Congress under the banner of ‘Ambernath Vikas Aghadi’ to form the Ambernath Municipal Council leadership.
Their alliance secured a majority of 31 seats, even though the Shiv Sena emerged as the single largest party with 27 councillors. Apart from this, the saffron party also formed an alliance with Asaduddin Owaisi's AIMIM in the Akot Municipal Council in the Akola district.
