A woman was booked in Maharashtra’s Thane for allegedly using fake documents to obtain a passport and travel to Pakistan. The 23-year-old woman, identified as Nagma Noor Maqsood Ali alias Sanam Khan, forged her documents to meet a man she befriended on Instagram and later married “online” this year, police said.

The woman reportedly travelled to Pakistan with her daughter after acquiring a forged passport and visa. The Vartak Nagar Police have registered a case under the Indian Passport Act and other relevant sections against her and an unidentified accomplice who assisted in creating the forged documents.

Police revealed that the woman used a fake Aadhar card, PAN card and the birth certificate of her minor daughter to apply for the passport. She successfully obtained the passport and visa, subsequently travelling to Pakistan, where she stayed for one and a half months before returning to India.

The crime is said to have occurred between May 2023 and 2024. The woman is currently in custody as the investigation continues. Despite the woman's claim of having legally changed her name, she failed to present any official documentation to the police.

The victim’s husband, Maqsood Ali, has been identified through her previous name. However, due to limited information about Maqsood, police are interrogating the accused for further details. In her preliminary statement, the accused mentioned that she travelled to Pakistan to meet a man she befriended on Instagram.

Authorities are also probing the nature of the woman's relationship with the man in Pakistan, as part of their ongoing investigation.
