Thane Elevated Corridor:  In a major infrastructure push, the Maharashtra Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) is planning to build an elevated corridor from Anand Nagar along the Eastern Express highway to Saket.

According to a report by the Indian Express, the corridor will stretch to a length of 8.24 km to decongest the existing route between the two locations.

According to the MMRDA plan, the corridor will start in Anand Nagar, where the Chheda Nagar to Anand Nagar corridor lands, and will end at Saket in Thane West.

Why is the corridor needed?

The corridor will bypass the congested Thane Junction to give respite to the traffic not heading to the junction. The Eastern Expressway Highway mostly remains congested at multiple locations, including Teen Hath Naka, Nitin Junction, Cadbury Junction and Golden Dyes Junction.

These intersections are already linked with six-lane flyovers, but because of slip roads and service roads directly merging into the EEH, the traffic movement remains slow.

The Anand Nagar-Saket corridor will be a level-up stretch above these intersections to offer a seamless and non-stop drive.

Therefore, the report added, the corridor will not only reduce travel time for commuters of Nashik, but also for the traffic coming from Mumbai and Nashik towards the Ahmedabad Highway.

Details about the corridor

The 8.24-km elevated corridor will have six lanes and will cater to two-way traffic with three lanes on each carriageway. The MMRDA has estimated the cost of the project at Rs 1,847.72 crore.

According to the IE report, the corridor is expected to be completed by 2028
