Following their ‘joint victory rally’ two months ago, a Shiv Sena (UBT) leader on Saturday hinted at the possibility of Thackeray cousins Uddhav Thackeray- Shiv Sena (UBT) and the Raj Thackeray, head of Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS), sharing the stage again during the Dusshera rally.
“I don't know if both Thackeray brothers will share the stage at Shivaji park on Dussehra rally. It's possible that we may invite Raj Thackeray for our Dussehra rally and he may invite our leader to his party's rally,” Hindustan Times quoted Shiv Sena UBT leader Sachin Anir as saying. He added that this year's Dussehra rally “will be unprecedented.”
This statement follows Uddhav Thackeray’s visit to his cousin Raj Thackeray during Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations. Both parties are reportedly in discussions to ally for the upcoming Mumbai civic polls.
Uddhav was accompanied by his wife Rashmi and son Aaditya in his first visit to Raj’s home since he moved there in November 2021. They reportedly met over lunch with a Sena UBT leader, describing it as a family visit. The leader stated that the meeting ‘assumes significance’ in light of the upcoming local body elections. “While it’s unlikely that political matters were discussed during the visit, it marks a major step toward building an alliance,” he added.
The cousins had previously shared the stage two months ago during a ‘joint victory rally’ held after the Maharashtra government scrapped the controversial three-language policy, which aimed at making Hindi a compulsory third language in primary school across the state.
Their recent engagements follow a month of speculations about a possible reconciliation, with reports suggesting that they may join forces ahead of local body elections to unite the Marathi vote bank. Earlier in April, Raj expressed his willingness to work with Uddav for a ‘bigger cause’ in the interest of Marathis.
