Van Rani, Mumbai’s beloved toy train, is all set to return to the tracks at Sanjay Gandhi National Park (SGNP) after a four-year hiatus. Fondly known as the "Queen of the Jungle," Van Rani is poised to rekindle fond memories for generations of Mumbaikars and nature lovers alike.

Originally launched in 1974, this iconic mini train has been a cherished attraction for over five decades, delighting children, families, and tourists with its scenic ride through the heart of the city. Its operations came to a halt in 2021 after Cyclone Tauktae caused extensive damage to the park’s infrastructure.

Now, as part of a major redevelopment initiative, the Van Rani is making a grand comeback, revamped, rejuvenated, and ready to roll. The revival is being spearheaded by Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal and Maharashtra Forest Minister Ganesh Naik, with vital support from the Ministry of Railways.

With SGNP sprawling across 106.95 sq km of green cover, the return of Van Rani promises to once again make it a hub of joy, nostalgia, and natural beauty.

Track Overhaul

The entire 2.3 km route has been completely relaid, and all 15 bridges along the track have been reconstructed to ensure a safer, smoother journey for visitors.

Modern Coaches

A brand-new toy train has joined the SGNP fleet. Trial runs commenced on June 30, followed by a successful full-capacity test on July 5, confirming the system’s operational readiness.

Upgraded Stations

At Krishnagiri Station, construction of the building, platform, and accessibility ramps is complete, with final touches currently in progress.
Teenmurthy Station’s platform is finished, and the station shed is expected to be ready by July 25.

New Attractions

The revamped Van Rani offers more than just a scenic ride. Passengers can enjoy educational displays on local wildlife, sweeping views of the Deer Park, and an immersive exploration of SGNP’s rich biodiversity, bringing a new dimension to the classic experience.
