Pune Bridge Collapse: An iron bridge over the Indrayani River in the Kundamala area of Maval tehsil of Pune's Pimpri-Chinchwad collapsed, claiming the lives of four persons on Sunday. Several others are suspected to have been swept away.

The locals present nearby were the first responders and the NDRF was called immediately for the rescue. According to Pune Collector Jitendra Dudi, 38 people have been rescued so far. He added that the exact number of people present on the bridge while the incident took place and those swept away is being assessed. 18 of rescued have been injured in the collapse.

The officials said that the bridge is a tourist spot and was currently receiving heavy rains over the last few days. Due to this, the water level in the river has risen.

While the exact cause of the collapse will be ascertained after the investigation, Deputy CM Ajit Pawar has reacted to the probable cause.
