Are millennials most educated? Aged between 29 and 44 in 2025, millennials are the most educated generation in history. A recent research revealed that despite being educated, smart and well-read, they are far behind the previous generation when it comes to financial stability. So, why is this smart generation so troubled? Are they really the most educated or just the most burdened generation ever?
Indian Millennial Is Stressed And Depressed
Specifically talking about Indian millennials, they are managing work, mental health and their ageing parents. With the constant urge to upgrade their lifestyle and to fit in the ‘Delulu’ world of Gen Z, they are putting their best foot forward. However, instead of getting what they deserve, all they are left with is anxiety, stress and fear of getting replaced in this ever-changing world of technology. To simply put, ‘Millennials are overworked and overstressed’. Not only does this generation have a load of bad liabilities, such as high cost of living, student debt, and changing job markets, but they are also burdened with various emotions, such as intergenerational trauma and societal expectations. As per a report by People Matters, 90 per cent of millennials are stressed and anxious due to work and being able to strike a balance.

How Did We Get Here?
Millennials are loaded with societal expectations to follow a certain lifestyle, network, socialise and work hard. The generation that has lived through major tech shifts and global events is now questioning what’s wrong. Well, millennials have seen the economic shock of the Covid-19 pandemic, which has severely impacted their financial path. The pandemic was too hard on millennials. As per Aljazeera, 3 crore Indian youths were unemployed during the pandemic. To make ends meet, a lot of them immersed themselves into work and began to glamorise hustle culture, which has only left them burdened and frustrated.
Why Are They Always At The Brink Of Burnout?
As if meeting ends and staying relevant were not enough, this generation is also constantly under scrutiny for their life choices. Marriage and relationships remain difficult topics for them. This generation is not okay with the traditional marriage set up, but they do not resonate with Gen Z’s nanoship, situationship, benching, breadcrumbing, and many other such forms of relationships. They question the traditional set-up of marriage as the ultimate milestone of life. However, despite being vocal about life choices, the societal pressure of finding the right person and settling down remains the same – very high. The overwhelming pressure of achieving everything has left this educated generation on the brink of burnout.
Conclusion
So when a millennial tells you, “adulting is hard,” they mean it. Yes, they are the most educated generation, and while managing everything at the same time, they are trying to find a middle ground for themselves because they are known for their resilience and determination. Backing the claim are the changes millennials have faced. Be it the transition of the 90s to the 2000s, technological advancements, societal perceptions and pressure, Covid-19, ageing parents, settling in life, and everything that falls in the middle, millennials have seen it all.
