There are many lessons to learn from the extravagant life and legacy of Shri Guru Gobind Singh Ji, the founder of the Khalsa Panth, that we can apply to our daily lives to make our lives brighter. Let us check out 7 significant teachings by the revered Sikh Guru.

7 Powerful Teachings By Guru Gobind Singh Ji

1. Act as a role model for others

A great deal of Guru Gobind Singh's 52 hukums, or directions, exhort common householders to live moral lives. Sayings like "donate a tenth of your earnings," "do not avoid performing virtuous acts," "do not indulge in drinking alcoholic beverages," "make an honest living," and so on are examples of good moral behaviour. He suggested that one must strive to become a role model for other people.

2. Serve humanity as much as possible

Guru Gobind Singh Ji made several sacrifices to benefit humanity and lived his life intending to make people happy. He was a firm believer in the adage "service before self" and that one should use all available resources to assist others. Taking up a weapon should be a last resort, but if it is necessary, one should act without hesitation.

3. Be watchful of what you speak

Guru Gobind Singh Ji was aware of the influence that words may have, thus he constantly instilled in his disciples the need to speak with caution and deference. He created a unique hukum that forbids a man from verbally abusing or using profanity towards his spouse. He forbade gossip of any type and instructed people to refrain from disparaging or speaking ill of others, even in private. Additionally, he urged individuals to uphold their word and avoid making untrue claims.

4. Become a humble individual

Guru Gobind Singh Ji fiercely opposed anyone who saw him as a god and saw himself as God's servant. He never shied away from acknowledging that the reason he was regarded as a Guru was due to the followers of his teachings, otherwise, there would have been many other mortals in the world who were deserving of the same rank. His life teaches us that we must not take pride in our power, but, strive to become a humble individual.

5. Love God’s Creation

Guru Gobind Singh penned several poetries and preached that the only people who may become divine are those who have loved. Being a sincere devotee, he held the belief that God is incomprehensible and devoid of any markings, colour, or caste. God is the absolute presence of all living things and is not a human. For him, the path to redemption lay in a deep love for God and his creation.

6. Instill the qualities of both - A Warrior And A Saint

This unique blend of firmness and softness - that one should be both energetic and tender at the same time was devised by Guru Gobind Singh Ji. One ought to be a soldier as well as an inner spiritual saint. One cannot simply act like a saint and accept whatever has occurred. Everyone must strive to be a saintly person who simultaneously opposes injustice and exhibits compassion.
