Amavasya 2025 Dates: Amavasya, also known as Amavasai holds immense significance in Hinduism. It is the new moon day, marking the beginning of a new lunar cycle. According to Hinduism, Amavasya is the day when the moon is not visible, symbolising the union of the individual soul with the universal soul. On this day, Hindus pay homage to their ancestors, offering prayers and performing rituals to seek their blessings. It is believed that the ancestors descend to the earth on Amavasya and by offering them food and prayers, individuals can strengthen their bond with their ancestors and seek their guidance.

Amavasya is also considered an auspicious day for spiritual growth and self-reflection. Hindus believe that the new moon day is an ideal time for meditation and other spiritual practices. Many Hindus also observe fasting on Amavasya, believing that it helps to purify the mind, body and soul. Additionally, Amavasya is considered an important day for performing rituals and ceremonies, such as the 'Tarpan' ceremony which is performed to pay homage to the ancestors.
