Amavasya November 2024: Kartik Amavasya Significance

According to legend, King Bali imprisoned the gods, including Goddess Lakshmi. Lord Vishnu freed them on Kartik Amavasya. However, the gods refused to return to their abodes, instead taking refuge with Lord Vishnu in the Ksheer Sagar. To commemorate this, devotees welcome Lakshmi, Vishnu, and other gods into their homes, symbolically keeping them overnight. Pleased by the arrangements and devotion, the gods bestow prosperity, health, and happiness upon the devotees.

Kartik Amavasya also marks Lord Rama's triumphant return to Ayodhya with Sita and Lakshman after defeating Ravana. The people of Ayodhya celebrated with lit lamps and fireworks, symbolising victory over evil. Worshiping Lakshmi, Ganpati, Vishnu, and other gods on this day is believed to bring manifold blessings and protection from negativity and misfortune. Devotees celebrate Diwali, the festival of light, to honour this legendary victory and invite divine blessings into their lives. This sacred day embodies the triumph of good over evil.
