Anang Trayodashi 2025: Significance
The significance of South Anang Trayodashi Vrat is detailed in Hindu scriptures, including the Garuda Purana. The term 'Anang' refers to one without a body, specifically Kamdev who was reduced to ashes by Lord Shiva prior to the Tarakasura Vadha. According to legend, Kamdev's wife, Devi Rati performed intense penance and prayed to Lord Shiva who ultimately restored Kamdev as 'Anang'. However, only Devi Rati could see Kamdev in his entirety while others could only perceive his head.
On this sacred day, Hindu devotees worship Lord Shiva, Kamdev (also known as Lord Manmatha) and his consort Devi Rati. By observing the South Anang Trayodashi Vrat with devotion, individuals believe they will receive Lord Shiva's blessings and ultimately attain salvation. The observer of this vrat is also granted happiness, prosperity, fruitful family relationships and marital bliss.

Anang Trayodashi 2025: Vrat Katha
Following the tragic death of Goddess Sati at Daksha Prajapati's Yagya, Lord Shiva became consumed by grief and lifted her lifeless body onto his shoulders. This act triggered a catastrophic chain of events, causing widespread destruction and chaos in the universe. To restore balance, Lord Vishnu intervened, dividing Sati's body into various parts, and Lord Shiva began to meditate.
However, the demon Tarakasura's tyranny continued to escalate, and he launched a successful attack on Devlok, defeating Devraj Indra. The Devas, led by Lord Indra, sought the help of Lord Brahma to defeat Tarakasura and reclaim their kingdom. Lord Brahma revealed that only Lord Shiva's son could vanquish the demon, but this seemed impossible since Lord Shiva was in deep meditation and Goddess Sati was no longer alive.
Determined to break Lord Shiva's meditation and bring about a solution, Kamdev used his Trishul to disturb Shiva's meditative state. Enraged, Lord Shiva opened his third eye which caused destruction and reduced Kamdev to ashes. Upon learning of Kamdev's intentions, Lord Shiva relented and decided to bless him with a new life. He informed Rati that Kamdev would be reborn as Pradyumn, the son of Lord Krishna once Lord Vishnu took birth as Lord Krishna.
