Apara Ekadashi 2025: Hindus celebrate Apara Ekadashi on the 11th day of the Krishna Paksha in the month of Jyeshtha, which usually falls in May or June. On this day, many devotees fast strictly to seek forgiveness for their sins and hope for blessings. Some people also call it Achla Ekadashi. They believe that observing this day with sincerity brings good outcomes. The focus is on Lord Vishnu, especially in his Trivikrama form. Worshippers spend the day praying, chanting mantras, and practising self-control to cleanse their souls. This year, Apara Ekadashi will be observed on 23rd May 2025.
However, devotees must adhere to certain dos and don’ts on this sacred Ekadashi Vrat to escape misfortune and the wrath of Lord Vishnu. Below is the list of guidelines that must be followed on Apara Ekadashi:
Apara Ekadashi 2025: Dos And Don’ts To Follow On This Sacred Ekadashi Vrat
- Refrain from consuming rice on Apara Ekadashi. The scriptures say that eating rice on this day could lead to being reborn as lower life forms. Not eating rice is said to bring more spiritual rewards and help make your fasting more meaningful.
- Try to keep your cool and avoid any arguments. This day is for Lord Vishnu, so peaceful devotion matters. Focus on chanting his name and staying calm, as getting caught up in negative feelings can weaken your worship.
- Practice celibacy on Apara Ekadashi. Spend the day dedicated to worshipping Lord Vishnu without getting distracted by worldly pleasures. Sticking to this helps build your spiritual discipline and brings more blessings to your prayers.

- Make sure to speak kindly and avoid disrespecting anyone. Being rude on Apara Ekadashi can upset Lord Vishnu and ruin the benefits of your fast.
- Stay away from foods that are considered tamasic, like onions, garlic, meat, liquor, fish, eggs and certain lentils. If you’re not fasting, stick to pure, sattvic foods. Eating tamasic food can cloud your mind and hinder your spiritual growth.
- Also, skip using twigs from trees for your toothbrush on this day. Hurting trees might upset Lord Vishnu, so find another option if you need to. Keeping nature safe is really important during this time of devotion.
- While worshipping, offer yellow fruits, flowers and sweets to Lord Vishnu. Chant Om Namo Bhagavate Vasudevaya 108 times and light a ghee lamp to invite happiness and prosperity into your home.
