The first Bada Mangalwar of Jyeshtha month is being observed on 13th May 2025.

Bada Mangalwar 2025: Significance

In Sanatan Dharma, Bada Mangal is associated with a number of religious beliefs. According to one widely held belief, the first meeting between Lord Rama and Hanuman took place on a Tuesday in the month of Jyeshtha. According to another story that links the day to the Mahabharata period, Lord Hanuman, in his old form, humbled Bhima's pride on a Tuesday. These tales demonstrate Bada Mangal's spiritual profundity and importance, particularly in light of Lord Hanuman's heavenly power and discernment.

Legend has it that Hanuman was resting on the mount of Gandhamadan in the Dwapar Yuga, masquerading as an old monkey. While in search of sweet-smelling flowers for Draupadi, Bhima chanced upon sleeping Hanuman. Muscular and arrogant, Bhima demanded that the old monkey pull out his tail from the path. Hanuman shot back by telling him to shift it himself. Bhima attempted to do so, but failed to lift the tail. Then Hanuman shattered Bhima's pride by pushing him away with his tail. Bhima folded his hands in humility and asked about the old primate's identity. When Hanuman emerged, he informed Bhima that he had assumed this form to humble him.
