Buddha Purnima 2025, Buddha Jayanti or Vesak is a significant Buddhist festival commemorating the birth, enlightenment demise of Gautama Buddha. The Buddhist society celebrates this holy day with great fervour and enthusiasm. The festival is spiritually significant and marks the life and teachings of Lord Buddha. Devotees visit temples, make offerings and engage in non-violent festivities. The date of Buddha Purnima changes every year based on the Gregorian calendar, and it typically occurs on the full moon day in the Hindu month of Vaishakh. This year, Buddha Purnima will be celebrated on 12th May 2025.
As taught in Buddhist tradition, the Buddha instructed the Middle Way, both avoiding sensual attachment and excessive asceticism. This way of life brings one to freedom from ignorance, craving, rebirth, and suffering. His central instructions are the Four Noble Truths and the Noble Eightfold Path, which preside over good living, mind training and compassion. They entail mindfulness, control of senses and contemplation. One of the main elements of his philosophy is the five skandhas and the law of dependent origination, which describe how everything and mental states come to be and cease through their dependency on other conditions, demonstrating that nothing exists by itself or is permanent.
During his lifetime, Gautama Buddha gave various teachings which are still prevalent today. On the occasion of Buddha Purnima, let us have a look at 20 best quotes by the founder of Buddhism on Karma, Life and Happiness:
