Chaturmas 2024: The Vedic Panchang suggests that Chaturmas begins on the Ekadashi Tithi of Shukla Paksha in the month of Ashadh. It holds great significance in the field of astrology. The four-month-long Chaturmas are devoted to Lord Vishnu. This year, Chaturmas is set to begin on 17th July 2024.
Lord Shiva rules the planet during the four months of Chaturmas when Lord Vishnu is not accessible for earthly pursuits. For this reason, Lord Shiva is particularly revered throughout these four months. However, certain dos and don’ts must be followed during Chaturmas.
Chaturmas 2024: Dos And Don’ts To Follow During These 4 Months
1. Performing weddings, thread ceremonies, moving into a new home, building a shrine, or engaging in other auspicious actions cannot be done during Chaturmas. After Chaturmas, on the eleventh day of the Kartik month (October), the rites can begin.
2. Devotees must wake up before sunrise, take a holy bath, and worship Lord Vishnu. Chaturmas fast is also observed, which means that no milk, jaggery, curd, oil, brinjals, green vegetables, salty, spicy food, sweet foods, meat, or strong liquors are consumed during these days.
3. Some adherents observe the fast monthly.
- During Shravan month, green veggies are avoided.

5. Since all of the Gods and Goddesses enter a four-month-long state of yoga nidra during this time, it is believed to be crucial for spiritual practice and self-control. Chanting, contemplation, meditation, and recitation are customs observed during Chaturmas.
6. Giving to charity is also highly useful over these four months. Donating food, money, shoes, slippers, umbrellas, and other necessities to the underprivileged is considered fortunate during Chaturmas.
7. Additionally, one must abstain from tamasic foods including meat, fish, eggs, and alcohol throughout these four months.
