Gupt Navratri 2024: Durga Ashtami is a highly auspicious day that is observed every month in honour of Goddess Durga. She was created by Lords Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva. Masik Durgashtami is observed on the Shukla Paksha, or Ashtami Tithi, of each month. Maa Durga was manifested primarily to combat the monster that was spreading evil on Earth. The Masik Durga Ashtami in the month of Ashadha (July) was observed on 14th July 2024. This is also known as Ashadha Gupt Navratri Ashtami vrat. As Gupt Navratri was also observed this month, this Masik Durgashtami Vrat held special significance.

Gupt Navratri Ashtami 2024: Significance Of This Day

Gupt Navratri Ashtami Vrat aids in the elimination of all negative karmas from previous lifetimes. It strengthens love and relationships, as well as one's self-confidence and courage. The vrat defends against sickness and promotes health and prosperity. The goal of the Masik Durgashtami vrat is to remove all troubles in life with Durga's blessings. Devotees fast on this day to seek heavenly protection, wealth, success, happiness, and tranquillity in their lives. Those who follow Masik Durgashtami with care and according to the rituals have gained immense benefits, as promised in the scriptures, making this fast extremely popular.

Gupt Navratri Ashtami 2024: Rituals Associated With This Sacred Day

To receive Durga's blessings, devotees fast for a day and worship her eight incarnations. During the puja, Mother Durga is served prasad of kheer and halwa. In the Durgashtami puja customs, it is traditional to worship a young female child. During the puja, the girl is given Halwa Puri and a gift to appease Mother Durga.

A sacred pot is placed on an altar. Copper pots or combinations of five metals are common, although silver or clay pots are also acceptable. It is embellished with water and spices within, and mango leaves and coconut are placed on top, with the face looking downward. A picture of Mother Durga is placed.

The devotee should present flowers to the Mother Durga image while reciting her name. The puja comprises a holy bath and sixteen different sorts of offerings for Maa Durga. Panchamrit, a mixture of curd, milk, honey, cow's ghee, and sugar, is presented to the god. Other items available include fruits, dried fruits and resins, betel leaves and nuts, cloves, and cardamom. After the puja, aarti, or the waving of camphor, is conducted. Puja is culminated by calling nine small girls, washing their feet with holy water, and giving them presents. Invoking Mother Durga's blessings marks the end of the day-long fast.
