Devshayani Ekadashi is significant because it is believed that Lord Vishnu achieves Yoga Nidra, a state of total mental tranquilly. This is commonly believed to be the moment he goes off to slumber on the Ksheersagar, the cosmic ocean of milk. Therefore, no auspicious activity - marriages, in particular, is performed at this time. Hindu mythology states that Hari Shayani Ekadashi, which falls on the tenth lunar day of Ashadha, really starts one night early.
