According to mythology, Garuda was born to Vinita, the second wife of Sage Kashyapa, while her co-wife Kadru gave birth to a thousand snakes. Garuda Panchami 2025: Rituals
On Garuda Panchami, devotees begin the day with a sacred bath and set up a special place of worship either in their homes or temples. A picture or idol of Garuda is placed with devotion, and prayers are offered using turmeric, sandalwood, flowers and incense. Women, particularly mothers, observe fasts and offer heartfelt prayers for the well-being and protection of their children, especially sons, seeking Garuda’s blessings for good health and long life.
One of the significant rituals of Garuda Panchami involves drawing or sculpting images of Garuda and serpent deities on the floor using rice flour or coloured powders.
