Gita Jayanti 2023: Gita Jayanti commemorates the auspicious day when Lord Krishna narrated the Bhagavad Gita on the Kurukshetra battlefield. After Arjuna received the transcendental wisdom of the Bhagavad Gita from Lord Krishna, he was able to overcome all of his doubts and combat with bravery and genuine will. Since then, the sacred vicinity of Kurukshetra has witnessed the ultimate wisdom that Lord Krishna taught, knowledge that never ceases to inspire others. The opening verse of the Bhagavad Gita refers to this holy city as "Dharmashetra - Kurukshetra," which means "the land of Dharma."

Interesting Facts About Kurukshetra 

- Since Kurukshetra is associated with the Vedas and Vedic culture, it is regarded as a historical and religious memorial. This is the site of the Mahabharata war, where Lord Krishna taught the concept of karma to Arjuna in the Jyotisar. 

- This history of the sacred Kurukshetra city can be traced back to the ancient Aryan Empire. Before the Aryans arrived in India, it was a centre of religion and culture. 

- It is said that the holy waters of all sacred rivers flow or merge into Kurukshetra's Sannehit Sarovar during Somavati Amavasya and Solar Eclipse. It is thought that those who take a dip in Kurukshetra's reservoirs enter heaven after passing away.  

- The great Hindu Epic Mahabharata asserts that those who pass away at Kurukshetra are saved in the afterlife. It is the country where the learned "rishis" gathered the Rig Veda and Sama Veda, and where the sage Manu composed his "Manusmriti." 

Famous Places To Visit In Kurukshetra

- Jyotisar - Given that this is the place with the banyan tree where Lord Krishna gave Arjuna Geeta Updesh just before the greatest true fight in history, it is genuine proof that the Mahabharata existed. In the middle of the battlefield, there stands a banyan tree that is supposed to have witnessed Lord Krishna imparting the knowledge of Bhagavad Gita to warrior prince Arjuna. 

- Brahma Sarovar - The sacred sarovar recounts the Mahabharata's fight on the Sarovar pillars. In the middle of the Sarovar stands an enormous, magnificent bronze chariot representing Lord Krishna teaching Arjuna the Gita Gyan. Along the bronze chariot are other temples dedicated to various gods and goddesses.

- Sannihit Sarovar - It is said to be Lord Vishnu's dwelling place and the meeting place of the Saraswati River's seven streams. It is said that taking a bath on Amavasya or an eclipse day will bring good fortune as received by performing an Aswamedha Yajna.
