Guru Gobind Singh Jayanti 2025: Guru Gobind Singh Prakash Purab or Guru Gobind Singh Jayanti commemorates the birth anniversary of the tenth Sikh Guru Sahib - Guru Gobind Singh. This significant celebration usually takes place in either January or December. Guru Gobind Singh is renowned for bravely standing up against the ruling Mughal Empire, protecting his people from invasion and upholding their rights. As a just and compassionate leader, he promoted peace, equality and justice. Through his remarkable life and inspiring writings, Guru Gobind Singh has left a lasting legacy, guiding countless Sikhs with his unwavering principles which remain a cornerstone of the Sikh faith. This year, Guru Gobind Singh Jayanti is being observed on 6th January 2025.

1. Skilled Warrior and Strategist: Guru Gobind Singh Ji was not only a spiritual leader but also a skilled warrior and strategist. He understood the importance of self-defence and military training, which is reflected in the creation of the Khalsa Fauj (Sikh army). Guru Sahib Ji himself was an expert in martial arts and horse riding. His military prowess played a significant role in protecting the Sikh community from Mughal invaders.
2. Patron of Arts and Literature: Guru Gobind Singh Ji was a patron of arts and literature. He was a talented poet and writer himself and his court attracted many scholars, poets and musicians. Guru Sahib Ji encouraged the development of Punjabi literature and music, which helped to promote Sikh culture and values. His love for literature and arts is evident in the rich cultural heritage of the Sikh community.
3. Creator of the Khalsa Panth: Guru Gobind Singh Ji created the Khalsa Panth, a unique spiritual and social order that emphasised the importance of spiritual growth, self-discipline and service to humanity. The Khalsa Panth was founded on the principles of justice, equality and compassion. Guru Ji's vision was to create a community of enlightened and courageous individuals who would stand up for truth and fight against injustice.

4. Champion of Women's Rights: Guru Gobind Singh Ji was a champion of women's rights and empowerment. He believed in the equality of men and women and encouraged women to participate in all aspects of Sikh life, including worship, education and warfare. Guru Sahib Ji also prohibited practices such as sati (widow burning) and purdah (veiling of women), which were prevalent in Indian society at that time.
5. Writer of the Guru Granth Sahib: Although Guru Gobind Singh Ji did not write the entire Guru Granth Sahib, he did contribute to it. He added the compositions of his father, Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji and also included the writings of other saints and bards. Guru Ji declared the Guru Granth Sahib as the eternal Guru of the Sikhs which would guide and inspire future generations.
