This day celebrates their courage and legacy.
As we pay tribute to the unwavering courage and ultimate sacrifice of the Sahibzade, let us delve into the significant aspects of their lives and the poignant martyrdom of Baba Fateh Singh and Zorawar Singh.
Veer Bal Diwas 2024: Who Are Sahibzade In Sikhism?
The term "Sahibzada" refers to the four sons of Guru Gobind Singh, the tenth Sikh Guru. The word, meaning "son" in Punjabi, is traditionally used to address the Guru's sons. The four brothers, known as the "Char Sahibzade", were martyred at a young age, with the younger pair, Baba Fateh Singh and Zorawar Singh, being executed together by the Mughals in Sirhind at just 6 and 9 years old.
The older brothers, Ajit Singh and Jujhar Singh died fighting bravely in battle at Chamkaur Sahib, aged 18 and 14 respectively. The martyrdom of the four Sahibzade is deeply significant in Sikh history and is commemorated annually in December with great vigour and sadness by the Sikh Sangat. Their names are reverently remembered in Sikh prayers and supplications, inspiring devotion and admiration for their courage and sacrifice.

Veer Bal Diwas 2024: Story Behind Shaheedi Of Baba Fateh Singh And Zorawar Singh
As per the Sikh legends, Sahibzada Baba Zorawar Singh Ji and Sahibzada Baba Fateh Singh Ji, the youngest sons of Guru Gobind Singh Sahib Ji, were born in Anandpur Sahib. Their lives took a tragic turn on December 7, 1705, when they, along with their grandmother, were captured by Mughal officials Jani Khan and Mani Khan Ranghar during the battle of Chamkaur.
The two young brothers were taken to Sirhind, where they were imprisoned in the Cold Tower (Thanda Burj) of the Fort. On December 9, 1705, they were presented before Nawab Wazir Khan, who threatened them with death. Despite the intimidation, the brothers remained fearless. Eventually, they were sentenced to death and sealed alive in a wall on December 12, 1705.
The site of their martyrdom, now known as Fatehgarh Sahib is marked by four Sikh shrines. Every year, a religious fair is held from December 25 to 28 to honour their memory. This tragic event has become an integral part of Sikh history and is remembered as a symbol of bravery and sacrifice.
