Hariyali Teej 2023 Vrat Katha
Hariyali Teej festival is celebrated to commemorate the reunion of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. According to mythological belief, Goddess Parvati did severe penance to get Lord Shiva as her husband. According to the legend, Mata Gauri was reborn in the form of Parvati in the house of Himalaya Parvat. Goddess Parvati wanted to get Shiva as a groom since childhood and decided to perform a strict penance for him. One day Narad Muni arrived and told Himalaya that Lord Vishnu, being pleased with Parvati's penance, wanted to marry her. Himalaya was very happy to hear this. On the other hand, Narad Muni reached Lord Vishnu’s abode and said that Himalaya has decided to get his daughter Parvati married to you. Lord Vishnu also agreed on this.
Further, Narad Muni went to Goddess Parvati and told her that her father Himalaya has fixed her marriage with Lord Vishnu. Maa Parvati got very disappointed after hearing this and went to a secluded place with her friends, away from her family. The goddess once again started penance after reaching the dense and deserted forest. She made a Shivling out of the sand and started worshiping it while observing a strict fast. Lord Shiva was pleased with this penance and promised to fulfill her wish. Meanwhile, Mother Parvati's father Parvatraj Himalaya also reached there. Knowing the truth, he agreed to get Mother Parvati married to Lord Shiva. Both, Goddess Parvati and Lord Shiva happily married each other with proper rituals.
Later, Lord Shiva declared, “O Parvati! We could get married as a result of the strict fast you observed. Just as you pleased me with your sincere devotion and got me as your husband, in the same way, I will give the desired fruit to the woman who observes this fast sincerely”.
