Holashtak 2025: The eight-day period preceding Holi - Holashtak is considered inauspicious for performing important or sacred activities. This period is believed to be filled with negative energy that affects individuals' lives. As a result, people avoid performing significant and joyful tasks such as weddings and new business ventures during this time. Instead, they focus on spiritual growth and self-reflection, preparing themselves for the vibrant celebrations of Holi. This year, Holashtak began on 7th March 2025 and will culminate on 13th March 2025.

Let's explore more reasons why it is advised to avoid starting new ventures or performing auspicious tasks during Holashtak below:

Holashtak 2025: Why You Must NOT Perform Any Auspicious Work During This Period

- As per Hindu legends, two popular legends explain why the eight days of Holashtak are considered inauspicious:

The first legend revolves around Bhakt Prahlad, a devout follower of Lord Vishnu. According to the legend, Prahlad's father Hiranyakashyap subjected him to severe torture for eight days. On the eighth day, Hiranyakashyap attempted to burn Prahlad alive by seating him on the lap of his sister, Holika. This gruesome act is believed to have made the eight days of Holashtak unfavorable for new beginnings.

The second legend is associated with Kamadeva, the Hindu god of love. As per the legend, Kamadeva attempted to disrupt Lord Shiva's meditation for several days. Enraged, Lord Shiva reduced Kamadeva to ashes on the eighth day of the bright half of the moon. Kamadeva's wife, Rati, pleaded for mercy and Lord Shiva eventually revived Kamadeva. This event is believed to have rendered the eight days of Holashtak unsuitable for auspicious activities.

- Additionally, it is believed that during the eight days of Holashtak, the environment is filled with negative energy that directly impacts an individual's life. This is why, while spiritual practices like puja and prayers are recommended during this period, starting new ventures or performing auspicious tasks is strictly prohibited.

- It is also believed that during Holashtak, a person's ability to think critically, make sound judgments and take wise decisions is impaired, making it an unfavorable time for important life decisions or new beginnings.
