- Fasting: Observing a fast on Janmashtami is deemed highly meritorious, as it purifies the mind and invites Lord Krishna's blessings. To fast, one can opt for a fruit-only or water-only diet. Alternatively, if a full fast is not feasible, a simple meal without onion and garlic, eaten once during the day, is also acceptable. This act of self-discipline and devotion is believed to bring spiritual rewards and a deeper connection with the Divine.
- Cow Service: On Janmashtami, show reverence for Shri Krishna by tenderly caring for cows, His beloved creatures. If possible, generously offer them fresh green grass and provide loving attention. This selfless act is believed to earn Lord Krishna's blessings, bringing joy, prosperity, and harmony to your home, and deepening your connection with the Divine.
- Charity: On Janmashtami, practicing charity holds great importance, as it purifies the soul and infuses positivity into one's life. Show compassion by generously donating food, clothing, and financial resources to those in need, thereby dispelling sins and inviting divine blessings, leading to a more harmonious and fulfilling existence.
- Mantra Recitation: On Janmashtami, reciting Lord Krishna's sacred mantras yields profound benefits. Chanting the potent mantra "Om Namo Bhagwate Vasudevay" is believed to alleviate life's challenges, bestow mental serenity, and bring profound peace to the individual, fostering a deeper connection with the Divine and ushering in a sense of harmony and tranquillity.
- Worship Lord Krishna: On Janmashtami, revering Lord Krishna yields immense spiritual rewards. Perform a sacred ablution for Shri Krishna using Panchamrit, a quintet of milk, curd, ghee, honey, and sugar. Subsequently, adorn Him with exquisite attire and ornaments, and gently sway His idol on a swing. Offer His favourite treats, butter and sugar candy, to deepen your devotion and connection with the Divine, and bask in the radiance of His divine love.
- Meditation: On Janmashtami, surrender to the divine aura of Shri Krishna by immersing yourself in profound devotion. Reflect on His enchanting divine pastimes, and participate in soul-stirring bhajans and kirtans. This sacred day presents a precious opportunity to express your deepest reverence and ardour for the Almighty, fostering an intimate connection with the Divine and nurturing spiritual growth.
