Krishna Janmashtami falls on the Ashtami tithi of Krishna Paksha in the month of Bhadrapada. This year, the festival will be celebrated on Friday, 4 September. On this day, devotees celebrate the birth of Lord Krishna with great pomp and show. Many ISKCON temples organise soulful kirtans, devotional chants, cultural performances and midnight prayers to celebrate Lord Krishna's birth.

ISKCON Temple Delhi

At the ISKCON Temple of Delhi, Maha kirtan, Krishna Leela drama and Jhanki darshan take place. A grand ceremonial bathing (maha abhishek) with mangala arti takes place to celebrate Lord Krishna’s birth. The temple also organises a light and sound show that depicts the stories of Mahabharat, Gita and Ramayana. The bhog includes Charanamrita, fresh fruits, Sabudana Khichdi, Kuttu Puri, Panjiri, Makhana Kheer, Pedas and Halwa-Poori prepared with pure ghee, also offered to Lord Krishna.

ISKCON Temple Vrindavan

ISKCON Temple Vrindavan holds immense spiritual significance as this is the very place where Lord Krishna lived in his childhood. The ISKCON temple of Vrindavan is also known as ‘Sri Sri Krishna Balaram Mandir’. The temple offers grain-free Mahaprasadam, including Makhan Mishri, Panchamrit and Dhaniya Panjiri, after the midnight aarti, along with free Ekadashi Khichdi. During Janmashtami celebrations, devotees from around the world come here and participate in mangla aarti and seek the blessings of Lord Krishna in his native land.

ISKCON Mumbai

This ISKCON temple is located near Juhu Beach and is also known as Sri Sri Radha Rasabihari Mandir. On Janmashtami, Chappan Bhoga, along with 500,000 cupfuls of khichadi and 200,000 hot prasadam meals for devotees, are offered. Many cultural shows, maha aarti, and maha abhishek are performed at midnight on Janmashtami.

At ISKCON Temple Bangalore, Janmashtami festival is celebrated with great pomp and show. ISKCON Pune is also known as Sri Sri Radha Kunjabihari Mandir and celebrates the Janmashtami festival by arranging dramas for kids based on Lord Krishna's childhood. The temple also organises this aarti, Maha Abhishek and midnight bhajan for devotees to welcome Lord Krishna.
