This festival typically falls on the fourth or fifth day after Ganesh Chaturthi annually. Also known as Jyeshtha Gauri Puja and Mangala Gauri Vrat, it is a sacred occasion for both married and unmarried women to seek the blessings of Goddess Gauri. Married women pray for the longevity and well-being of their husbands, while unmarried women seek an ideal life partner. Gauri Pujan: A Sacred Celebration

Gauri Pujan is a revered festival honouring Goddess Parvati, observed with great fervour in Maharashtra. To perform the puja, essential items include idols of Lord Shiva, Durga, and Ganesh, a copper vessel for bathing the idol, clothing, jewellery, and offerings like fruits, flowers, and sweets. The puja procedure commences with worshipping Lord Ganesha, followed by inviting Maa Gauri to reside in the home. Offerings, incense, and lamps are presented, accompanied by chanting of sacred mantras.

Puja Vidhi and Mantras

The simple puja vidhi involves installing Goddess Parvati's idol, bathing her with water and Panchamrit, and offering clothes, ornaments, and flowers. Aarti and circumambulation follow, with nevaidya offerings and continuous chanting of "Om Gourye Namah" or "Om Parvatayi Namah". Special organ worship, Nakhshikh Puja, is also performed.

3-Day Rituals

Day 1: Gauri Avahana

The festivities commence with Gauri Avahana, marking the installation of Goddess Gauri's idol in homes and pilgrimages. Devotees prepare offerings for the three primary deities - Lord Shiva, Goddess Parvati, and Lord Ganesha - and perform puja after setting up the statue. This day sets the tone for the reverence and devotion that follows.

Day 2: Satyanarayan Puja

The second day is dedicated to performing Satyanarayan puja, a ritual that adheres to specific customs. It is recommended to invite a priest to conduct the puja at home, ensuring that all rituals are performed with precision and devotion. This day is a testament to the faith and dedication of the worshipers.

Day 3: Gauri Visarjan

The final day, Gauri Visarjan, marks the culmination of the festivities. The idol of Mother Gauri is immersed in water, accompanied by pious ceremonies, bringing the celebrations to a close. This day coincides with the last day of Ganesh Chaturthi, symbolizing the harmony and unity of the divine entities.

Dharmapala's devotion and charitable deeds eventually led to the birth of a son. However, priests predicted a short life for the child, filling Dharmapala with sorrow. His wife reassured him to have faith in the Almighty. When their son married a pious girl who worshipped Mata Gauri, she continued to observe Gauri Pujan after marriage. Mata Gauri's blessings ensured the son's long and healthy life. This legend highlights the power of devotion, faith, and the blessings of Mata Gauri in overcoming adversity and fulfilling desires. The story underscores the significance of Gauri Pujan in seeking the goddess's benevolence and protection.
