Jyeshtha Purnima 2025: The Hindu calendar's third month, Jyeshtha, typically occurs in May or June, when temperatures are at their highest. Jyeshtha Purnima is the name of the full moon that falls during this month. The term "Jyeshtha," which has its roots in Indian tradition, refers to the oldest, most esteemed, and most important of all. It is a period for introspection, devotion and re-establishing a connection with tradition's more profound origins. This year, Jyeshtha Purnima will be observed on 10th June 2025.

As a representation of wholeness and divine energy, Purnima, the full moon day, has profound spiritual meaning in Hinduism. It is regarded as extremely auspicious for prayers, fasting and charitable deeds. Specifically, Jyeshtha Purnima is associated with ancient customs and potent ceremonies. However, since they interfere with Purnima's sanctity, some things must be avoided on this sacred day. Check out the list of things that must be avoided on Jyeshtha Purnima below:

Jyeshtha Purnima 2025: 5 Things That Should NOT Be Performed On Full Moon Day As Per Hinduism

1. Avoid Trimming Nails And Hair

Cutting your hair or trimming your nails is considered to be inauspicious on Jyeshtha Purnima. These actions are thought to disrespect the day's purity and disturb its sacred energy. A respectful and sattvic (pure) state can be maintained by refraining from personal grooming during the full moon, which is considered a time of spiritual alignment and reverence. It is believed that it helps preserve the spiritual advantages gained from the prayers, fasting, and rituals performed on this holy day.

2. Avoid Non-Vegetarian Food And Alcohol

In Hindu tradition, it is strongly discouraged to eat non-vegetarian food on Jyeshtha Purnima. It is believed that tamasic (heavy or impure) foods, such as meat, fish, eggs or alcohol impede spiritual development, and that the full moon is a time for purification of the body and soul. Your energy and intentions can be raised by selecting sattvic foods like fruits, milk, and basic vegetarian foods.

3. Refrain From Lazy Behaviour

It is believed that being lazy or wasting the day on pointless conversation and diversions lessens the spiritual benefits of the day. An excellent opportunity to do good deeds, such as praying, chanting, lending a hand to others, or introspecting, is presented by this full moon. You can advance spiritually and experience a sense of fulfilment that extends well beyond the day by avoiding procrastination and making an effort to be committed and present.

4. Avoid Wearing Black

In Hinduism, black is unlucky and carries negative energy, particularly on holy days like Jyeshtha Purnima. It is believed that wearing black on such an occasion blocks spiritual benefits and positive vibrations. Choose vibrant, uplifting hues like red, pink, yellow or green instead. These hues are ideal for commemorating a day of spiritual significance because they are linked to joy, purity, and optimism. Wearing bright colours also helps to align your energy with divine blessings and create a positive atmosphere.

5. Do Not Pluck Tulsi Leaves

It is customarily forbidden to pluck Tulsi (Holy Basil) leaves on Sundays or on holy days like Purnima or Ekadashi because it is thought to offend Lord Vishnu. These days, Tulsi is highly regarded as a sacred plant with unique spiritual significance.
