Kaalbhairav Jayanti 2025: According to the Hindu Panchang, Kaal Bhairav Jayanti is celebrated on the eighth day (Ashtami tithi) of the Krishna Paksha of the Margashirsha month. This sacred event is known as the birth anniversary of Baba Kaal Bhairav and is also known as Bhairav Ashtami or Kalashtami. This sacred day related to Baba Kaal Bhairav, the fierce form of Lord Shiva is considered a very sacred and powerful occasion. On this day, devotees worship Lord Bhairava and seek liberation from negative forces, fears and sins.

Kaal Bhairav Jayanti 2025: Significance Of Lord Kaal Bhairav
According to the sacred Hindu legends, Baba Kaal Bhairav is the embodiment of Lord Shiva's anger. According to one legend, when the Trinity of Brahma, Vishnu, and Mahadeva debated supremacy, Shiva was enraged by a harsh remark made by Brahma. In his anger, he created Bhairava and ordered him to cut off one of Brahma's five heads. Bhairava obeyed, leaving Brahma with only four heads. This incident frightened all the gods and they begged Lord Shiva and Bhairava for forgiveness.

After cutting one of Lord Brahma’s heads, Baba Kaal Bhairav was accused of Brahmahatya. To atone for this sin, he had to undertake the Kapali Vrata (vow of death) and wander the earth naked as a mendicant. Finally, his sin was absolved when he reached Kashi (Varanasi). Henceforth, the ancient temple of Kaal Bhairav stands in Varanasi up to this date in honour of Shri Bhairav Baba.
Kaal Bhairav Jayanti 2025: Significance And Rituals
Lord Kaal Bhairav is considered the master of time and destiny, so his worship holds special significance. It is believed that sincere worship of Kaal Bhairav protects one from all kinds of troubles, fears, and negative forces. He also protects his devotees from fierce enemies. Observing a vrat on Kaal Bhairav Jayanti liberates devotees from all sins and obstacles.
Devotees must worship Lord Kaal Bhairav while facing East on Kaal Bhairav Jayanti. Reciting the Bhairav Chalisa or Bhairav Stotra is considered highly auspicious on this day. Devotees must also offer black sesame seeds, coconut, a mustard oil lamp, and jaggery to Lord Bhairava to seek his special blessings. Devotees must also feed a dog as it is regarded as the vahana of Lord Kaal Bhairav and pleases the lord.
