Kalashtami April 2025: Dedicated to Lord Kaal Bhairav, the sacred fast of Kalashtami occurs every month on the eighth day of the moon's waning phase. The eighth day following the full moon is deemed most sacred for worshipping Baba Kaal Bhairav. Of the 12 Kalashtami celebrations per year, one falling in the Margashirsha month is highly significant. On this significant day, the devotees go to obtain Lord Bhairav's grace and protection by following rituals and traditions to glorify the fierce deity. Vaishakh Kalashtami falls this year on 20th April 2025, Sunday.

Kalashtami April 2025: Significance

As per the Aditya Purana, Lord Kaal Bhairav is worshipped as the "God of Time". The term "Kaal Bhairav" was used by taking the term "kaal" from "time" and "Bhairav" from the manifestation of Shiva. It is said that Lord Shiva assumed the incarnation of Maha Kaleshwar and chopped off Brahma's fifth head to show his strength. The Lord Kaal Bhairav is worshipped by the people with dedication and fervour in order to receive divine blessings and deliverance from pain. By offering prayers to Lord Bhairav on Kalashtami, the devotees feel that all their pain, ill influences, and sufferings will be taken away. Lord Kaal Bhairav is a fierce deity who is considered to safeguard his devotees from any harm and bring them peace and prosperity. His worship forms a part of Hindu tradition.

Kalashtami April 2025: Rituals

Kalashtami is an important day for Lord Shiva's devotees, who wake up early to take a sacred bath before sunrise and offer special puja to obtain Kaal Bhairav's blessings. People go to temples, pray and perform rituals to pay their respects to the deity. Some keep a fast, while others keep vigil through the night, listening to the stories of Mahakaleshwar. This vrat is said to fetch prosperity, happiness and success.

On Kalashtami, special puja and rituals are also performed for the departed ancestors. Feeding black dogs, which are Lord Kaal Bhairav's vahan is a significant ritual. Devotees offer milk, curd, and sweets to black dogs on this day. Additionally, offering food to the Brahmins at pilgrim centres like Kashi is very auspicious. Reading or listening to Kaal Bhairav Katha and chanting Lord Shiva's mantras are also believed to be beneficial. By following Kalashtami Vrat, devotees seek the divine boon and protection of Lord Kaal Bhairav to attain spiritual enrichment and material rewards.
