Mahakaleshwar Shivratri Shringar: On the Chaturdashi day of Krishna Paksha in the month of Phalgun, Mahashivratri is observed annually. Shiva worshippers look forward to this day with great anticipation. On this day, it is customary to worship Mother Parvati and Lord Shiva. This year, Mahashivratri will be observed on 8th March 2024. At the Ujjain Mahakal temple, the festival of Mahashivratri is observed distinctively. At Ujjain, the nine-day festivities of Shiv Navratri are observed before Mahashivratri. During this span of nine days, Baba Mahakal gives darshan in 9 distinctive swaroops. On the day of Mahashivratri which is the 9th and final day, Baba Mahakal gives magnificent darshan as a groom. 

Mahashivratri 2024: Significance Of Baba Mahakaal Shringar During Shiv Navratri 

It is believed that whoever receives the darshan of Baba Mahakal for nine days straight will have all of their prayers answered. The first day of Shiv Navratri, or Panchami Tithi of Krishna Paksha in the month of Phalgun, marks the beginning of this celebration. On this day, people worship Lord Koteshwar form of Mahakal. 

The temple committee distributes Varuni and Sola to eleven Brahmins on this auspicious day. Following this ritual, the worship of Mahakal begins. Offerings are then made to Mahakaleshwar ji, and Shringar is performed at 3:00 PM following the evening puja of Mahakaleshwar. During this while, Baba Mahakal wears new magnificent clothes and jewellery.

Mahashivratri 2024: 9-Day Distinctive Shringar Of Baba Mahakal 

Day 1 - Chandan, Bhang Shringar And Vastra Dharan 

Special are the nine days leading up to Shivratri (Mahashivratri 2024). On this first day of February 29, Baba was decked up in sandalwood and bhang. Haldi is also offered to the deity. 

Day 2 - Sheshnaag Shringar 

Baba Mahakal is dressed like Aadi Shesh or Sheshnaag (the divine being upon whom lord Vishnu rests) on the second day of Shiv Navratri.

Day 3 - Ghatatop Shringar 

Baba Mahakal is adorned in the shape of a Ghatatop on the third day of Shivnavratri. 

Day 4 - Chhabina Shringar 

The beautiful Chhabina shringar of Baba Mahakal is performed on the fourth day, in which he is dressed like a prince in his youthful form. 

Day 5 - Holkar Shringar 

On the fifth day, Baba Mahakal is dressed according to the Holkar tradition. 

Day 6 - Manmahesh Shringar 

Baba Mahakal is dressed as the alluring Manmahesh on the sixth day of Shiv Navratri. 

Day 7 - Uma Mahesh Shringar 

On Shiv Navratri's seventh day, Baba Mahakal is dressed as Uma Mahesh. On this day, Baba Mahakal gives darshan with mother Parvati.

Day 8 - Shiv Tandav Shringar 

Baba Mahakal gives darshan in Shiv Tandav swaroop on the eighth day of Shiv Navratri. During this period, Baba gives darshan to his devotees in a furious form, as the name implies.

Day 9 - Saptadhaan Ka Mukhota 

On the final day of Shiva Navratri, March 8 (Mahashivratri 2024), Baba Mahakal will give darshan in the form of a groom. Baba Mahakal’s sehra will be made using quintals of beautiful flowers. This Swaroop is additionally known as Sehra Darshan.
