Margazhi Amavasai 2024: Rituals

On Margazhi Amavasai, devotees wake up early and take a sacred dip in the river or a nearby waterbody. This ritual, known as "Theerth Snan", is believed to purify the mind and soul. After the dip, devotees offer prayers to the sun god and perform a ritual called "Tarpanam", where they offer water and sesame seeds to their ancestors.

Devotees then visit the nearby temple, where they offer prayers and worship Lord Shiva. They also offer special prayers to their ancestors, seeking their blessings and guidance. In some temples, special pujas and rituals are performed on this day, which devotees attend with great fervour.

In the evening, devotees gather with their families and offer prayers to their ancestors. They also share stories and memories of their ancestors, keeping their legacy alive. By performing these rituals, devotees believe they can connect with their ancestors and seek their blessings for a prosperous and happy life.
