Masik Shivratri February 2024: One of the most auspicious days in the Hindu lunar calendar, Masik Shivaratri, also known as Masa Shivaratri occurs on Chaturdashi Tithi on the waning phase of the moon (Krishna Paksha). On this day each month, Hindu devotees fast and worship Lord Shiva and Shakti with great faith to win his blessings. There are 12 Masik Shivratri observed each month, each having a particular significance. The most significant of the 12 Shivaratri fasts is Maha Shivaratri.

Masik Shivratri February 2024: Significance Of This Auspicious Day
Masik, often called Masa, signifies "monthly," while Shivratri denotes "the night of Lord Shiva." Hindu devotees observe a fast from sunrise to midnight on this day, marking the event with the utmost dedication. They also worship the Shivalinga and offer prayers to Lord Mahadev on this auspicious day. The majority of devotees pray and recite mantras to appease the Supreme Lord and obtain his heavenly grace, which helps them release anxiety, anger, envy, pride, and greed.
This day is particularly auspicious for unmarried girls as it is believed that by fasting on this day, they will be blessed with an ideal life partner. Additionally, married Hindu women fast on this day to receive blessings for a happy married life.
Masik Shivratri February 2024: Rituals Associated With This Sacred Day
- Devotees must get up early in the morning and take a bath, preferably during Brahma Muhurat.
- Devotees must additionally visit a nearby Lord Shiva temple and perform Abhishek of the Shiva Lingam with Gangajal, Bel Patra, datura, rose water, milk, curds, ghee, and honey. After the abhishek, the devotees must do chandan shringar on the Shiva Lingam.
- The worshippers of Lord Shiva can additionally offer hibiscus and aparajita flowers to Lord Shiva as they are well-liked by the deity.
- Observe a fast on the day of Shivratri and refrain from consuming salt. Devotees can consume milk and fruits. They must additionally abstain from consuming tamasic food, alcohol and grains.
- Devotees must recite Shiv Chalisa, Shiv Tandav Stotram and Lord Shiva Mantras to appease the deity.

- Since it is “Shiv Ratri”, devotees must observe a night vigil and perform bhajan kirtan all night long to attain utmost favours from the deity. They should also perform Lord Shiva Puja in the midnight hour.
