Mauni Amavasya 2024: The day of Mauni Amavasya has been given major importance in Sanatan Dharma. This new moon day is marked on the final day of the Krishna Paksha in the Hindu lunar month of Magh. The day of Mauni Amavasya is highly significant for performing tarpan to satisfy the soul of one’s ancestors and seek their blessings for prosperity. 

The significant day of Mauni Amavasya is being observed on 9th February 2024. However, certain do’s and don’ts must be followed on this pious day. Let us check them out further.

Mauni Amavasya 2024: Do’s And Don’ts To Follow On This No-Moon Day 

- Being quiet (maun vrat) on Mauni Amavasya is considered very auspicious. This method supports the growth of spiritual consciousness, inner peace, and mental control.

- Since Mauni Amavasya is a day devoted to spiritual austerity and purification, it is customary to abstain from consuming tamasic food items especially non-vegetarian eatables on this day. 

- Since cutting nails and hair on Amavasya is considered unlucky, refrain from doing so.

- Any auspicious endeavours, including marriage, engagement, mundan, purchasing a new car, starting a new business, and griha pravesh, should not be carried out by individuals on Mauni Amavasya. 

- It is advisable to let go of negative thoughts, emotions, or actions during Mauni Amavasya, as this is a time for reflection and spiritual growth.

- Tarpan, or ceremonial offerings to ancestors is customarily performed on Amavasya days, particularly Mauni Amavasya. It is believed to be carried out to pay tribute to the deceased and seek their blessings. 

- It is believed that on Mauni Amavasya, taking a holy bath in one of the sacred rivers - the Yamuna, Saraswati, or Ganges will bring good fortune. It is believed to cleanse the soul and atone for sins.
