Merry Christmas 2023: Why Is Christmas Celebrated On 25th December 

- History - To commemorate the birth of Jesus Christ, December 25 is designated as Christmas. The exact date of Jesus' birth is not mentioned in the Bible, but early Christians picked December 25th to coincide with pagan winter solstice ceremonies. This approach aimed to normalise Christianity by introducing it into customs that were already well-established.  

Additionally, December 25th was the first "official" date that Christmas was observed on the Roman calendar in 336, under the reign of Constantine, the first Christian Roman Emperor. However, at this time it was not an official state celebration of Rome. But there are a plethora of customs and beliefs on the origins of Christmas falling on December 25.

Common Prophecy Around Jesus’s Birth - The most popular Christmas narrative is the one about Mary, the mother of Jesus, finding out she would be having a special child from the Lord. Jesus was born on December 25, nine months after Mother Mary is said to have heard this prophecy on March 25.

- Traditions Associated With The Day - Christmas is associated with a number of traditions. The most common activities are mass participation, carol sing-alongs, preparing cakes and cookies, decorating Christmas trees, shopping for close friends and family, and going to church. Christmas celebration is also incomplete without the mention of Santa Claus. He is a mythical being who is loved by Children and adults alike. On Christmas Eve, when Santa Claus arrives at their houses via the chimney bearing gifts, children also look forward to seeing him. However, regional variations exist in Christmas traditions.
