Narmada Jayanti 2024: The sacred Hindu festival Narmada Jayanti marks the origin of the sacred river Narmada and is hence, it is highly significant. Every year on Shukla Paksha Saptami in the Hindu lunar month of Magha, people celebrate this sacred festival. Devotees revere the Narmada River on this day because it is believed to bring wealth and tranquillity into their lives. Narmada Jayanti 2024: Legends Associated With The Birth Of Narmada River
According to the folklore, Lord Shiva originated the Narmada River to wash away the sins of the devas, or celestial creatures, during his battles with demons. Deep meaning is embedded in the river's name: the terms "Narm" and "da" mean "happy" and "giver," respectively, identifying the river as a wellspring of joy.
Another legend claims that Mother Narmada appeared from Lord Shiva's sweat during his protracted meditation. Even Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati were in awe of her beauty. Lord Shiva gave her the name Narmada to express his joy at her birth.
Narmada Jayanti 2024: Significance Of This Sacred Day
Of the five principal rivers of India, the Narmada is most highly esteemed due to its religious importance. By bathing and praying in the Narmada River on Narmada Jayanti, devotees are believed to get peace and prosperity in their lives. The Narmada River was sanctified by the Nag Rajas collectively, according to the Vishnu Purana, and anybody who bathes in its holy waters and offers prayers to it is believed to be liberated from all sins and illnesses.
Mother Narmada has the same reverence as Mother Ganga for providing Moksha to the devotees. Narmada Jayanti is a time when believers connect with the Almighty via rituals, prayers, and a deep sense of devotion.
