As per the Tamil calendar, Panguni Pournami marks the culmination of the Tamil year and the arrival of Chithirai month, the first month of the Tamil New Year. This day is particularly associated with Goddess Durga, Lord Murugan, and Lord Shiva, and is celebrated with great devotion across temples in South India. At sacred sites like Palani and Thiruvannamalai, thousands of devotees gather for special abhishekams, pujas, and processions. Many also observe fasts, perform charitable acts and participate in community prayers.
