Purnima April 2025: In the Hindu lunar calendar, Chaitra Purnima marks the first full moon and is celebrated as Hanuman Jayanti. The term Purnima, meaning ‘full moon’ in Sanskrit refers to the brightest phase of the Moon. It occurs on the 15th day of the bright half of the lunar fortnight. The end of Purnima signifies the start of the Krishna paksha, a 15-day waning phase and the beginning of a new month in the Purnimanta system. The Hindu lunar calendar is based on the Moon's cycles, with Purnima being a significant event. This year, Chaitra Purnima will be observed on 12th April 2025.

Purnima April 2025: Chaitra Purnima Significance

The Chaitra Full Moon, also known as Chitra Purnima, occurs when the Sun is in a high position in Aries zodiac signs and the Moon aligns with the bright star Chaitra in Libra. This full moon is considered an auspicious time for creation and manifestation. The exalted Sun in Aries energises the soul and empowers individuals to make wise choices that determine their destiny. The full moon also brings balance to the mind and its thought forms.

Chaitra Purnima holds significant importance in Hindu tradition. It is considered sacred to Chitragupta, the Keeper of Deeds who maintains a record of an individual's positive and negative karma. According to Hindu beliefs, Chitragupta's records determine one's fate after death. On this day, devotees seek forgiveness for their sins and strive to lead a life of righteousness. Chaitra Purnima coincides with Hanuman Jayanti, making it a highly auspicious occasion.

Purnima April 2025: Chaitra Purnima Rituals

To observe this auspicious day, begin by bathing early before sunrise. Worship Lord Vishnu and Lord Hanuman, seeking their blessings. In the morning, reading the Ramayana or Bhagavad Gita is recommended as these sacred texts offer spiritual guidance and wisdom. Those devoted to Lord Vishnu may also observe the Satyanarayana fast, recite its katha and offer bhog to the deity.

During the worship, various offerings are made to Lord Vishnu, including banana leaves, supari, fruits, incense sticks, mauli and sandalwood paste. Anna Daan, the act of donating food is also considered a noble deed. Additionally, clothing and other essential items are donated to those in need. To further seek spiritual growth, devotees chant the mantra 'Om Namo Narayana' or the Gayatri Mantra 108 times. The worship concludes with the offering of Arghya to the moon. By following these rituals, devotees aim to cultivate a deeper connection with the divine and promote a sense of compassion and kindness.
