Pitru Paksha 2025, a 15-day period for honouring deceased relatives, occurs in the Indian lunar month of Bhadrapada, typically in September and October. In 2025, it starts on Sunday, September 7, and ends on Sunday, September 21. Pitru means ancestors, and paksha means fortnight. The Vedic calendar divides each paksha into fifteen lunar days, when people perform rituals, donate food and pay tribute to their ancestors.

According to the sacred Hindu scriptures, Pitru Paksha is considered unfavourable for making significant purchases, as it is solely dedicated to the veneration of the ancestors. Let us check out the list of certain items that must not be purchased during the Shraddha Paksha, as it might displease the ancestors and invite negative outcomes.

Pitru Paksha 2025: Items You Must Not Purchase During Shradh Paksha Even By Mistake

1. Jewellery And Luxury Items

It's generally advised not to purchase jewellery or luxury goods, such as gold, silver or designer items, during Pitru Paksha. This time is for simple living, thinking and honouring ancestors, not for getting material things. Spending on wealth or possessions at this time may cause unwanted attachment and take away from spiritual practices. People are instead encouraged to concentrate on giving to charity, praying, and performing rituals that bring peace and blessings to their family.

2. Property And Vehicles

In Hindu tradition, buying vehicles, property or other expensive things isn’t regarded as auspicious during Pitru Paksha. It is believed that getting new items can create needless wants and take away from the important goal of remembering family members who have passed away. People are encouraged to hold off on big financial decisions for these fifteen days and spend their time remembering their ancestors.
