Ashadha Purnima is also known as Guru Purnima and Vyasa Purnima. The purpose of the event is to show appreciation and respect for gurus, also known as spiritual instructors, who are seen to be the ones who transmit wisdom and direct people towards enlightenment. For Hindus who adhere to the teacher-student (Guru-Shishya) tradition, this day is very significant. On this day, people worship their gurus by doing pujas, seeking their blessings, and showing them reverence by giving them gifts. The event also honours the birth anniversary of Veda Vyasa, who compiled the four Vedas and wrote the Mahabharata. The festival is observed in many parts of India with traditional dances, music, and other cultural activities in addition to its spiritual importance.
