Rama Ekadashi 2025: Significance And Rituals

Sacred Hindu scriptures like the Brahma-Vaivarta Purana suggest that fasting on Rama Ekadashi can liberate a person from even the worst sins, like killing a Brahmin or Brahm Hatya. Just hearing about how great this vrat is can lead to salvation and guarantee a place for the devotee’s soul at Lord Vishnu’s abode, Vaikuntha.

It's said that the benefits of celebrating Rama Ekadashi are greater than doing 100 Rajasuya Yagyas or 1,000 Ashvamedha Yagyas. If devotees worship Vishnu with dedication on Rama Ekadashi, they can get past any problems in their life and have great success.

Rama Ekadashi involves a key fasting ritual that starts the day before, called dashami. On this day, devotees eat a simple meal before sunset. The next day, on ekadashi, they fast completely and then end the fast with Parana on dwadashi tithi. They don't eat rice or grains during this time.

Devotees take a holy bath in the Brahma Muhurat and worship Lord Vishnu with fruits, flowers, and incense. Throughout the day, the worshippers do naam jap, perform sankirtan and read sacred scriptures like Shrimad Bhagavatam or the Bhagavad Gita. Since 'Rama' is another name for Goddess Lakshmi, they additionally offer prayers to the goddess of wealth, seeking blessings for prosperity, health and joy.
