Rukmini Dwadashi 2025: The Shukla Paksha Dwadashi tithi during the sacred month of Vaishakh marks the divine appearance day of Srimati Rukmini Devi, Lord Krishna's eternal consort. As the supreme among His 16,108 queens in Sri Dwarika Dham, Rukmini Devi shares Lord Krishna's eternal pastimes as Dwarakadheesh. The devotees revere her as the supreme goddess of good fortune, Maha-Lakshmi, as much as they adore Krishna as the Supreme Personality of Godhead. On this pious day, the devotees recall her faithfulness, beauty and divine nature, offering prayers and joyfully celebrating her descent with reverence, love and devotion throughout temples and households. This year, the sacred day of Rukmini Dwadashi is being observed on 9th May 2025.

Rukmini Dwadashi 2025: Significance

In Hinduism, Devi Rukmini is worshipped by devotees as the goddess of luck and adored primarily alongside her spouse, Lord Krishna. She is identified as an avatar of Lakshmi and is Krishna's principal and beloved consort. The divine role of Devi Rukmini is mentioned in several scriptures, such as the Gopala Tapani Upanishad, Garga Samhita, Bhagavata Purana, Brahma Vaivarta Purana and the Harivamsha. The Mahabharata also speaks of her prominently in the Adi Parva and Mausala Parva. The book Rukminisha Vijaya tells of her life prior to marriage and ends with her marriage to Krishna. She also occurs in other sacred books like the Vishnu Purana and Padma Purana, establishing her as an incarnation of the goddess Lakshmi.

Rukmini is commonly revered in western and southern Indian states like Gujarat, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Goa, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Tamil Nadu and Kerala. Her birthplace, Vidarbha, is said to be in current-day Maharashtra. In the Pandharpur region, she is worshipped as "Rakhumai" together with Lord Vithoba, a manifestation of Lord Krishna. Some Divya Desam temples, like the Pandava Thoothar Perumal Temple and Parthasarathy Temple, worship her as the main goddess. In other such temples as Thirukkavalampadi, Venugopalaswamy Temple, and Rajagopalaswamy Temple, pilgrims worship her along with co-wife Satyabhama, respecting their joint love for Krishna.

Rukmini Dwadashi 2025: Rituals

It is believed that worship, prayers, and pujas with flowers to Rukmini Devi on her appearance day bestow divine blessings and help in the fulfilment of cherished desires. On this special day, temples of Lord Krishna conduct special prayers in her name, with the devotees proclaiming their love and devotion through rituals and flowers. The vibrant ceremonies, abhishekams, chants and sacred hymns fill the atmosphere with spiritual energy, inviting divine grace into the lives of worshippers.
