Saphala Ekadashi 2024: Significance
Saphala Ekadashi is a significant Hindu festival that promises prosperity, success, and happiness. The word 'saphala' means 'to prosper', making this day ideal for those seeking good fortune. It's a celebration that unlocks abundance, prosperity, and success. The festival is observed nationwide with enthusiasm, particularly in Lord Krishna temples, as he's an avatar of Lord Vishnu.
The importance of Saphala Ekadashi is highlighted in the 'Brahmanda Purana', where Lord Krishna explains its significance to Dharamraja Yudhisthira. According to Hindu scriptures, fasting on Saphala Ekadashi is more beneficial than performing 100 Rajasuya Yagas and 1000 Ashvamedha Yagas. This sacred day transforms bad luck into good fortune, ending life's miseries. By observing Saphala Ekadashi, individuals can achieve their desires, gain satisfaction, and experience inner peace.

Saphala Ekadashi 2024: Rituals
On Saphala Ekadashi, devotees fast in honour of Lord Vishnu, starting at dawn and ending at sunrise the next day. While fasting, they only eat 'saatvik' food. Those unable to fast fully can opt for a partial or half-day fast. The main deity worshipped is Lord Vishnu, and Vaishnavas offer Tulsi leaves to seek forgiveness for sins. Devotees also offer incense sticks, coconuts, and other aromatic items to please Lord Vishnu.
During Saphala Ekadashi, devotees stay awake all night, participating in bhajans, kirtans, and listening to tales of Lord Vishnu. The night ends with 'aarti' and the distribution of Prasad among family members. On this day, it's customary to donate money, food, and essentials to Brahmins and those in need. This act of charity is believed to bring spiritual growth and blessings.
Saphala Ekadashi 2024: Vrat Katha
In the city of Champavati, King Mahishmati's eldest son, Lumpaka, was extremely sinful. He blasphemed Brahmanas, Vaishnavas, and demigods, leading his father to exile him. Lumpaka lived in a jungle, surviving on raw meats and fruits. He would sneak into the kingdom at night, stealing food and other items, but the citizens would release him due to his royal lineage.
One day, Lumpaka found himself under a sacred banyan tree, where he spent some time. Unbeknownst to him, it was the day before Saphala Ekadashi. Due to fatigue, Lumpaka fell unconscious and awoke on Ekadashi, too weak to hunt. He found some fruits and, surprisingly, offered them to Lord Vishnu, praying for mercy. Lumpaka spent the entire night awake, unintentionally observing Saphala Ekadashi.
As a result of his unintentional fasting and vigil, Lord Vishnu blessed Lumpaka with the return of his kingdom. A divine horse appeared, and a voice from the sky instructed Lumpaka to return to his father and reclaim his rightful place. Lumpaka obeyed, took over the kingdom, and eventually found happiness with a beautiful wife and good sons.
