The date of Saint Surdas's birth is not certain, with historians assuming it to be either on 1478 or 1479 AD. In the Hindu calendar, the day is celebrated in the Vaisakh month during the Shukla Paksha on Panchami tithi, the fifth day of the increasing moon. According to the Gregorian calendar, the day is generally in the month of April or May. Surdas Jayanti 2025: Rituals
Start by cleansing the worship space with Ganga jal or pure water. Place the photo frame or idol of Surdas and Lord Krishna on the puja altar. Light a lamp, diya or incense stick to set the spiritual tone.
Offer fresh flowers and sacred leaves to the photo or idol as an act of respect and gratitude. Offer fruits or sweets with a pure heart, followed by the singing of popular hymns by Surdas as an act of deep devotion and love. Perform the aarti with a ghee lamp, representing enlightenment and prayer.
Culminate the puja with meditation, going over Surdas's message of love, selflessness and simplicity. Thank God and be grateful for the blessings. Share prasad among family and friends and impart the happiness and positivity. Devotees can also uphold a fast for half a day. Additionally, eating only satvik food can increase the spiritual value of the puja, giving a closer relation to the divine.
