There is a significant ritual in Hindu homes to establish a temple or pooja ghar. Vastu Shastra provides guidelines for how to build a house and arrange the rooms, including the ideal direction for a temple in a residence. When positioned in accordance with Vastu Shastra, the mandir orientation in the home and the temple area can offer the house and its residents health, wealth, and happiness.

Where To Position Mandir In Home According To Vastu?
The northeast direction, or Ishan Kona, is regarded as lucky in Vastu Shastra and is the greatest direction to place the mandir at home.
Praying with your face to the east brings good fortune and progress because it is the direction of the rising Sun and Lord Indra. Facing toward the west direction can help you attract money. You can also face the north direction while praying to attract positive energy. When worshipping, it is not advised to face the south according to Vastu. You must refrain from placing your mandir in the south direction in order to avoid inauspicious consequences.
Things To Keep In Mind While Placing Idols In Pooja Room
- Vastu suggests that one must not place the idols on a floor as it can cause negative effects. The deity idols or images should always be placed on a raised pedestal.
- It is also advised that the face of the idols should not be covered with garlands
- One must not keep large deity idols in the temple at home as it is considered inauspicious. The size of the idol must fall under seven inches.
- It is also not permissible to keep hollow deity idols in the puja room. One must keep solid deity idols only.
Location Of The Puja Room As Per Vastu
Choose the northeast or east corner of your home when designing the pooja room. A compact mandir can be built and positioned in this Vastu-recommended location.
However, avoid placing the mandir in these areas:
1. Under a staircase
2. In front of the main door
3. Basement
4. Near a toilet
Things To Place In The Puja Room For Attracting Good Fortune
- To purify the space and provide a divine atmosphere, you can light a few scented candles, dhoop, or incense sticks.
- It is advised to place a red cloth underneath any pictures or other idols in the temple.
- In the left corner of the puja room, a bell should be kept. The sound of the bell repels negative energy according to mandir vastu.
- Keep a puja thali which is made out of silver, brass, copper, meenakari embellishment, or even steel.
- You must also decorate the floor of the puja room with a rangoli as it is considered auspicious and attract good fortune
Beneficial Colours For Puja Room According To Vastu
The puja room's tranquility is ensured by the use of subtle colours in addition to the mandir's proper direction in the home. Use white, light blues, beige, orange, lavender, cream, or light yellow hues for the temple area. Avoid black and dark brown at all costs.
