Vijaya Ekadashi 2026: Rituals
The fast for Vijaya Ekadashi starts from Dashami up to Dwadashi. The devotees observing the vrat may take sattvic food and avoid taking tamasic food from Dashami itself. On the day of Dashami, pour water in an earthen or copper vessel, place leaves and an idol of Lord Vishnu on it, and keep your mind quiet and positive.
On the day of Ekadashi, after a bath during the Brahma Muhurat, the devotees should worship the sacred pot with sandalwood paste and seven grains or Sapta Dhanya. Read stories related to Lord Vishnu throughout the day. Keep awake all night and light a ghee diya. Perform the abhishekam of Lord Vishnu with Panchamrit and offer tulsi leaves to the Lord. Additionally, offer tulsi leaves, flowers and fruits to the Lord.
While observing the Ekadashi Vrat, abstain from consuming grains and tamasic food. As per your capacity, observe a nirjala vrat or on fruits. Devotees can also consume potatoes, peanuts, sabutdana, kuttu, singhara, and other edibles allowed during the fast.
After sunrise on Dwadashi day, complete your last pot puja. Carry it to a river or a water body. Once carried to the river, donate the pot along with any possible offering one has received to a Brahmin or someone who needs it. It is said that if one observes the fast correctly in this manner, then one’s wish can be granted.
