Vinayaka Chaturthi January 2025: Vrat Katha

According to Hinduism, Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati were once sitting by the Narmada River. Goddess Parvati asked Lord Shiva to play a game of chaupar with her. To decide the winner, Lord Shiva created a boy from some grass and infused life into him. The boy was asked to declare the winner of the game. The game was played three times, and each time Goddess Parvati won. However, when asked to declare the winner, the boy surprisingly declared Lord Shiva as the winner.

Goddess Parvati was furious at the boy's decision and cursed him for becoming lame and lying in the mud. The boy begged for forgiveness and Goddess Parvati told him to perform the Vinayaka Chaturthi Vrat to get rid of the curse. The boy performed the vrat for 21 days, and Lord Ganesha was pleased with him. As a reward, the boy's curse was lifted, and he was able to walk again.

Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati also performed the Vinayaka Chaturthi Vrat to reunite with their son Kartikeya. The vrat was successful, and Kartikeya returned to his parents. Since then, the Vinayaka Chaturthi Vrat has been considered a powerful ritual to fulfil all desires and bring happiness and prosperity.
