Australian Open 2024: India's Rohan Bopanna and Australia's Matt Ebden created history as a tennis pair as they defeated Italy's Simone Bolelli and Andrea Vavassori 7-6, 7-5 in the men's doubles final to clinch the Australian Open 2024 title on Saturday, January 27.
With the historic win, Bopanna also became the oldest player to win a Grand Slam men’s doubles title.
Bopanna, who is 43 years and 329 years old, went past the record of Jean-Julien Rojer, who won the French Open men’s doubles title alongside Marcelo Arevola at the age of 40 years and 270 days.

This was the second straight men’s doubles final appearance at a Grand Slam for Bopanna and Ebden. The pair had finished as runner-up at last year’s US Open.
They headed into the summit clash on the back of their semi-final win over Zhang Zhizhen and Tomas Machac 6-3, 3-6, 7-6 (10-7).

Talking about the thrilling contest, the first set went down to the wire as both the pairs held their serves to take the set into a tie-breaker.
In the tie-breaker, Bopanna and Ebden pulled off their class to get the better of Boleli and Vavassori.
Just when it looked like the second set would also go into the tie-breaker, Bopanna and Ebden earned a break of serve and put the final nail in the coffin.
Last year, Bopanna played in the mixed doubles final along with Sania Mirza but finished as the runners-up.
This was also the maiden Grand Slam title for Bopanna and Ebden as the pair finished as the runner-up in the US Open last year after losing against the American pair of Rajeev Ram and Joe Salisbury in the final.
Earlier in the tournament, Bopanna became the new world No. 1 in men's doubles after the Indo-Aussie pair got the better of the Argentinian duo of Máximo González and Andrés Molteni 6-4, 7-6 (5) to make it to the final four.
This is Bopanna's second grand slam title after the 2017 French Open win with his Canadian partner Gabriela Dabrowski in mixed doubles.
